A Promise to Micronesia

This is my promise to Micronesia

Where tides that cradled creatures

Now choke with noxious chemicals.

Where lands that nourished bodies

Now suffocate under weapons of war.

Where generations that planted hope

Now fear monstrous typhoons.

I’ll hurl my words like Chamorro sling stones

To shatter hollow excuses for colonial calamities,

Until climate justice reaches our receding shores.

This is my promise to Micronesia.
